As stated in Article 4 of the Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Regulation on Foreign Language Education, Training, and Examinations, Compulsory Foreign Language Courses “(1) encompass all compulsory foreign language courses—excluding vocational foreign language courses—included in all departments and programs across the University’s faculties, conservatories, schools, and vocational schools.”

Exemption from Compulsory Foreign Language Courses

ARTICLE 5 – (1) Students enrolling for the first time in a faculty, school, conservatory, or vocational school program where the medium of instruction is Turkish may take the exemption/proficiency exam administered by the School of Foreign Languages ​​if they wish to be exempted from compulsory foreign language courses.

(2) The following students are exempt from compulsory foreign language courses:

a) Those who have obtained a score equivalent to at least 60 points—based on central foreign language exams accepted by the Council of Higher Education—in international foreign language exams recognized as having such equivalence.

b) Those who have completed their secondary education in secondary education institutions attended by citizens of the country in question, located in a country where the designated foreign language of instruction is spoken as the native language, for at least the last three years of their education.

c) Those who have obtained a score of at least 60 on the proficiency exam administered by the School of Foreign Languages.

ç) Students who have successfully completed the compulsory preparatory class or the optional preparatory class.

(3) The score obtained in the proficiency exam; Letter grades are assigned based on the Absolute Assessment System table included in the Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University Associate and Undergraduate Education, Training, and Examination Regulation, published in the Official Gazette dated September 9, 2016, and numbered 29826. This letter grade applies to both semesters.

(4) Students who are exempt from compulsory foreign language courses may not take the courses from which they are exempt in subsequent semesters, nor may they request that their exemption scores be rendered invalid.

(5) Students who fail to meet at least one of the conditions specified in the second paragraph are required to take and pass these courses. Vocational foreign language courses are excluded from the scope of exemption. Compulsory foreign language courses are scheduled to span at least two semesters, designed to meet the foreign language proficiency level stipulated for that specific level within the Turkish Higher Education Qualifications Framework.

 

The exemption examination for compulsory foreign language courses is administered by the School of Foreign Languages, and detailed information regarding the exam is announced on the School’s website prior to the examination.
