History

Our School was initially established as a central unit under Balıkesir University under the name of the Department of Foreign Languages. It continued its educational activities as the School of Foreign Languages pursuant to the Council of Ministers Decision No. 2010/1111, published in the Official Gazette dated December 10, 2010. Our School was subsequently transferred to Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University, which was established in accordance with Article 1 of Law No. 6640, published and enacted in the Official Gazette dated April 23, 2015, under issue number 29335. The Department of Foreign Languages is operating within the structure of our School.

Our School conducted its educational activities within the Central Campus of our University until the end of the 2021-2022 academic year. From the Fall semester of the 2022-2023 academic year onwards, it continued its operations in the building belonging to the Culture and Education Foundation (KEV), located in the Paşakonak Neighborhood of the Bandırma District in Balıkesir Province. As of September 4, 2025, our School carries out its activities in the area allocated within the Central Campus.

Our School provided undergraduate students with the opportunity to study in Optional English Preparatory Classes during the 2016-2017 / 2023-2024 academic years, and associate degree and postgraduate students between the 2019-2020 / 2023-2024 academic years. These Optional Preparatory Classes were closed within the scope of the decision dated February 15, 2024, numbered 2024/02, taken by the Senate of Bandırma Onyedi Eylül University.

Compulsory Preparatory Classes are actively conducted within our School building. Contemporary foreign language education is provided to 253 students in the Compulsory Preparatory Classes, to 6,217 students in the "Foreign Language" courses required by Article 5/ı of Law No. 2547 in the Faculties and Schools affiliated with our University, and to 1,001 students in the "Vocational Foreign Language" courses. Furthermore, our School coordinates various Foreign Language Proficiency and Placement Exams administered university-wide.
